The Theory:

Last year we started The Outdoor Coached Rides and had a lot of fun. Once again, we will strive to offer an outdoor environment similar to what you experience inside a Doctrine Studio; high-quality, organized, social, well thought-out, and time efficient. My vision is to provide my cyclists with a place to meet and enjoy their hobby with friends while progressing their skills and becoming better cyclists in general. All rides will be in as safe an environment as possible. I have an enviable coaching crew that will be able to deliver outdoor guidance to all abilities.

In Practice:

Once registered, Thursday night Doctrine cyclists will enjoy a consistent day and time to simply show up with their bike and ride. The goal will be to split up into ability groups and work on aspects of cycling that is relevant to that group. Skills, group riding etiquette, gearing, and pacing will be bundled in with getting in a challenging training session and some good social fun that is between 1.5 to 2 hours.  We will do our best so that no one is left behind.

The Locations:

We'll start at one of three locations which will be communicated well in advance. The first location will be in North Glenmore Park in the car lot on the corner of 66th Ave. and 37th St. This is a great location to handle a bigger group and work on appropriate skills and conditioning. 85th St and 9th Ave SW has a parking lot and is a great starting point for rides going West. The second location, Last Best Brewery, has really stepped up in their desire to be involved with the local cycling scene. They are situated directly on the Cycle Track Network and routes from there will add a lot of diversity.

Coaches:

I have gathered very experienced leaders for our group rides, Sherri BuchignaniMichael Godfrey, and Kevin McClelland will aid me in ensuring your time is well spent!

Last Best Brewery!

Last Best has embraced the cycling community and allows you to bring your bike into their facility after your ride so you don't need to leave it in your car! They are also the ride start for the Branch-Out Charity Monday ride.

Registration:

A membership for the May 25th - July 27th period is available here. Attend the rides as often as possible.

June 8th 2017 6:30pm:

Meet at Cougar Ridge Drive and 85th St. in the park at 6:30pm

Your head coaches this evening are Sherri Buchignani, Michael Godfrey, Trev Williams.

Beer after the ride will be at 722 World Bier House just down the street!

Once again, we will split up into three groups after Sherri establishes the 'Rules of Road' and tonight's goal:

Novice (no group riding experience)
We wil head out to a quiet subdivision and do loops so we can stay contained, safe, and together. I have found this is a great way of learning skills in a concentrated environment.

Intermediate (some group experience)
This group will head out and work on cycling skills and safe group riding, while incorporating an appropriate training session.

Advanced (comfortable in groups)
This group will head out for a paceline / flat tempo session designed to work on your upper end speed on a long gradual descent interval and then your cardio on a long gradual incline. In between these two intervals we will work on controlled paceline work.
